Half-Row of Top Triangles - First Triangle:
- See Sarah White's tutorial on working the top triangles for reference.
- On the wrong side, pick up and purl 6 stitches along the selvedge edge lying between your two needles, working from the bottom to the top of the rectangle below. Turn work.
- Row 1 (right side): K5, SSK, turn.
- Row 2: P4, P2tog, turn.
- Row 3: K4, SSK, turn.
- Row 4: P3, P2tog, turn.
- Row 5: K3, SSK, turn.
- Row 6: P2, P2tog, turn.
- Row 7: K2, SSK, turn.
- Row 8: P1, P2tog, turn.
- Row 9: K1, SSK, turn.
- Row 10: P2tog, turn.
- Row 11: SSK, do not turn.
Second, Third and Fourth Top Triangles:
On the right side, slip remaining stitch onto right needle and pick up and knit 5 stitches along the selvedge edge lying between your two needles, turn.
- Row 1 (wrong side): P6, turn.
- Row 2: K5, SSK, turn.
- Row 3: P4, P2tog, turn.
- Row 4: K4, SSK, turn.
- Row 5: P3, P2tog, turn.
- Row 6: K3, SSK, turn.
- Row 7: P2, P2tog, turn.
- Row 8: K2, SSK, turn.
- Row 9: P1, P2tog, turn.
- Row 10: K1, SSK, turn.
- Row 11: P2tog, turn.
- Row 12: SSK. Do not turn.
Repeat all steps until four top triangles have been formed (half the width of the piece). Do not turn.
Knit the Flap:
- Work remaining four knit rectangles as given for the second row of triangles, picking up 5 stitches in the next rectangle, and 6 for the next three.
- At the end of the row, turn and bind off 6 stitches (entire rectangle) in main color.
- Begin to work flat entrelac, break main color and join contrasting yarn.
- Work purl rectangles as follows:
- On the wrong side, pick up and purl 6 stitches along the selvedge edge of bound off rectangle, working from the top to the bottom. Turn work.
- Row 1 (right side): K5, slip 1 purlwise, turn.
- Row 2: P5, p2tog, turn.
- Rows 3-12: Repeat Rows 1 and 2 five times, but do not turn work after Row 12. All stitches from previous block have been decreased and incorporated into new block.
- Work the rectangles for the rest of this row in the same way.
- Turn work and bind off 6 stitches (entire rectangle) in contrasting color.
- Break yarn and join main color.
-
Work two top triangles to finish the flap as follows:
- On the right side, pick up and knit 6 stitches along the selvedge edge of bound off rectangle, turn.
- Row 1 (wrong side): P6, turn.
- Row 2: K5, SSK, turn.
- Row 3: P4, P2tog, turn.
- Row 4: K4, SSK, turn.
- Row 5: P3, P2tog, turn.
- Row 6: K3, SSK, turn.
- Row 7: P2, P2tog, turn.
- Row 8: K2, SSK, turn.
- Row 9: P1, P2tog, turn.
- Row 10: K1, SSK, turn.
- Row 11: P2tog, turn.
- Row 12: SSK. Do not turn.
- Repeat Step 8 once more until all stitches have been decreased. Fasten off.
