Hold Your Stuff in Style

Felting is a great technique for beginner knitters because any uneven or dropped stitches are lost in the fabric as it shrinks and becomes denser. This Felted Market Bag knits up quickly and can be used year round -- so why not move on from seasonal scarves and give it a try?

Materials

  • 6 skeins Nashua Creative Focus Chunky, or about 660 yards of chunky wool or wool blend yarn
  • 2 skeins Feza Lady yarn, or about 140 yards of eyelash yarn of your choice
  • scraps of contrasting wool yarn for flowers (optional)
  • pair of size 17 US (11 mm) knitting needles
  • pair of size 13 US (9 mm) knitting needles
  • scissors, yarn needle and felting supplies

Gauge

Before felting, 2 stitches and 2.5 rows per inch in Stockinette Stitch with chunky yarn. After felting, 2.25 stitches and 4 rows per inch.

Size

After felting, bag is about 18.5 inches wide and 13 inches deep. Your size may vary slightly depending on how much your bag is felted.
