A knitted piece doesn't have to be intricate or large to make an impact. This barely-there shrug offers a hint of coverage about the shoulders on cloudy days or in frigid air conditioning, without sacrificing a look that screams "summer!"

Materials:

  • 1 skein of I Love This Cotton! Spark in shade 068 Aqua Spark, or about 50 (60, 70, 80, 90, 100) yards of medium weight yarn of your choice
  • One pair US 8 (5 mm) needles

Gauge:

4 stitches and 6 rows to 1 inch in Star Rib Mesh stitch

Size:

To fit a 1 year-old (2 year-old, 3 year-old, 4 year-old, 5 year-old, 6 year-old)

Length: About 11 (12, 13, 14, 15, 16) inches cuff to cuff.

Sample knit in 4 year-old size by Eileen Casey.

Special Stitches

Star Mesh Rib:

Rows 1 & 3 (wrong side): Purl

Row 2 (right side): K1, *yo, sl2 kwise, K1, p2sso, yo, K1. Repeat from * to end.

Selvedge Stitches:

These stitches are constant throughout and are not included in the pattern. For example, when there are increases or decreases at an edge, the selvedges are worked first, and then any shaping is worked.

Right side: slip first stitch knitwise, knit last stitch.

Wrong side: slip first stitch purlwise, purl last stitch.
