Knits Like Fabric
Monday July 6, 2009
There are several knitting stitches that attempt to approximate a feeling you get from a woven fabric, and among these one of my favorites has to be Herringbone.
This stitch uses a really interesting increase technique (where you knit into the top of the purl stitch in the row below before knitting the stitch on the needle itself) to help make the slanting V shapes that define this pattern. Once you get the hang of it it's no trouble at all, and makes a very cool effect.
This pattern is a great choice for any project that needs a little fancy but still a nice, classic look. I can see a great knit jacket, sweater or twin set using this stitch.
