Wordless Wednesday: SWTC Bamboo
Wednesday January 14, 2009
Southwest Trading Company Bamboo, 100 percent bamboo. 270 yards per 100 gram skein, light weight. Photo (c) Sarah E. White.
I bought a bag of this yarn sometime last year with an eye toward making a summery sweater. I just recently cracked the bag open and I think I'm really going to enjoy working with this yarn when I get to it.
It's very soft and silky and the colors are interesting. It should make for a great project to knit and to wear. Has anyone worked with this yarn before? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I haven’t worked with the Bamboo from that company, but am now making a shell with the 100% soy silk from SWTC (Oasis). It looks very similar, very smooth to knit with, and with its variegated colors, very attractive. I think you’ll like the Bamboo for a project!
I used this or a similar bamboo yarn recently for a scarf for a friend. It came out very silky and soft — I want the scarf back
for myself now.
The only complaint from the friend is that she wears it all the time and it’s beginning to “pill” (but still looks great).
I would use bamboo yarn again, especially for wearable items.
the tank top I knitted using this Bamboo stretched horribly (got wider). It’s very soft though. I had to crochet a long tie to hold the neckline together so I can wear it. My advice is knit a swatch and wash it. I knitted a swatch but did not wash it.
I have used Bamboo from this company to make a summer shrug. Loved the texture and the patterning the yarn did on its own. Would use again and have some in my stash just waiting for the right time when the urge hits!
I saw this yarn and thought a cool pair of summer socks. The bamboo is soft, cool & comfortable for summertime.
