Are You Asking for Knitting Related Gifts?

Tuesday December 16, 2008
My mom (hi, mom!) keeps asking me what I want for Christmas. I never like to answer questions like this because, one, I'm a grownup, and most things I want I just buy myself and, two, I like to pick gifts I think people will like rather than what they tell me they want. I think it's more fun for everyone involved.

But I was tempted this year to put together a knitting-related wish list now that one of my favorite online knitting stores has a wish list function. Of course knitting is a big part of my life, so naturally I think about knitting related books, yarn, notions and other goodies when people ask me what I want.

So I wondered if other people ask their loved ones for craft-related gifts when they write their wish lists. Are you coveting all sorts of new yarn this year, wishing for a few new books, or did you forget to ask for anything related to knitting at all? Let us know by answering the poll, then leave a comment about what knitty thing you most want for the winter holiday of your choice.

interchangeable needles are top of my wish list, and should there be a fairy godmother to whom I can ask for a wish to be granted………I want the ability to easily understand every pattern I read!

Books and signature knitting needles. If getting gifts is about wishing for something that you’d never buy yourself these are what I want. http://www.signatureneedlearts.com/

All I would want is a gift card to my local yarn shop. Any amount is fine.

Interchangeable needles…definitely…the wooden ones. Recently, however, I “found” a whole supply of my mother’s circular needles. It will be fun using them and remembering her as she knit sweaters and hats for me.

Yes I have a knitting Christmas wish list. I want a subscription to Interweave Knits and a gift certificate to my favorite LYS which is in South Carolina and I am in VA. I will use it when I go on vacation. My daughter in SC has been hinted to for the certificate and the one here has been told about the subscription.
Like you said usually anything I want or need I get for myself. But these are inexpensive enough that I don’t feel guilty for asking for them. LOL.

I wanted to put a swift on my list, but I thought it would be to hard for someone to find.

Anyway, we decided because of the economy we would only doe childrens gifts this year.

Merry Christmas!

I have one knitting book on my list (on knitting with beads), and yarn is always on the list, but not any specific yarn.

FWIW, if you don’t get your interchangeable needle set, give it to yourself as a present. That was probably my smartest purchase this year. I went for the nickle-plated Options set. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!

I am asking my DIL to use her beautiful handwriting to write the numbers on all my wooden needles, so I can see the numbers while they are in my needle case. I want to throw away those plastic needle wrappers. I hate those tiny and faint numbers on the needles!!

Leaving a list of *I’d like to haves” with my Mary Kaye dealer and my LYS ensures that hubby won’t have to think about what to get me on his own (please, save me from that again), plus I leave large enough lists that what I end up with is always a surprise.

For the lady who’d like a swift but doesn’t think her family could find one, suggest a KnitPicks gift certificate for one, or point family to Patternworks’ website, or Webs’ website where one can be ordered with or without a ball winder.

Hi, I’m a knitter, so of course I ask for knitting related gifts every year. I have a long bus ride home from work every day, and try to use that time to knit. I like to make most of the gifts we give every year, and my LYS collects for the fire department all year long. Happy knitting to all
