Knitting in the News: Stitch and Pitch to the Extreme and a Knit Music Video
Thursday November 13, 2008
Devout Detroit Tigers fan Wanda Meyer doesn't just sit in her box seat behind the third-base dugout at the ballpark, she knits though the games, at home and at the park, and says she averages a baby hat per game. She thinks she's knit about 1,200 baby hats and 100 baby blankets from the ballpark, and they go to local hospitals, Project Linus and a foster-child program where Meyer and her husband winter in Florida (where they also attend Tigers' training camp games). Talk about dedication!
In other news on the charity front, this week we've got a look at more knitters working for Save the Children, Canadian knitters working on hats, scarves and gloves for people who need them, and folks in my neck of the woods knitting helmet liners for soldiers.
Finally, a fellow Guide sent me a link earlier this week to a very cool knit music video. The entire video is made of panels of machine-knit fabric, more than 700 in all. The people move around, sing, leaves fall, and it all looks amazingly real considering it's just a bunch of knit stitches. I'm constantly amazed at the wonderful things that can be made with such humble raw materials!
