Let Them Knit Cake

Today marks the official beginning of my birthday week, and I'm pretty excited about it. Maybe it's because it's a birthday with a zero at the end, or because I love getting dressed up and having a fancy meal, which is usually what my birthday celebrations consist of.

This year I wanted to do something fun for myself for my birthday, so I decided to knit myself a birthday cake. It's a couple of knit circles joined together by a panel of Garter Stitch that looks a bit like frosting, them embellished with all sorts of embroidery including Feather Stitch with beads around the middle and a lazy daisy with a beaded center and random French knots on the top.

The pieces are crocheted together to give the look of icing.

I think it's pretty adorable, and the basic construction is a great idea for a knit bowl or bag. This is one fun project that really got my creative juices flowing. I hope it does the same for you!

I love having a summer birthday, especially as a child. I had just begun to get bored with my toys and books from Christmas when my birthday would roll around and I got a whole new batch to keep me entertained till the next Christmas!

Happy summer birthday:-D

Happy Birthday, Sarah!
Mine was yesterday (the 24th) and it ended with a 5, so a significant number. I have to disagree with Norma about the summertime birthday. I always seemed to get clothes and supplies for school - things I needed anyway. Better than my uncle who was born on Christmas day. Bummer!
