Have You Ever Knit with Wire?
Wednesday June 25, 2008
This week I've got knitting with wire on the brain (and the hands...ouch!) so I thought I'd officially ask the question I hypothetically asked yesterday: Have you ever knit with wire? If you haven't, would you like to?
If you have, I'd love to hear about your experiences in the comments.
Poll: Have you ever knit with wire?

- Yes, but I didn't like it.
- No, but I'd like to try it.
- No, and I'm not interested.

I made necklaces and bracelets with 24 guage sterling silver wire and lovely Swarovski crystals for my brother’s wedding party, including the bride’s jewelry. They came out gorgeous! It was a little akward at first, but once I got the tension right, it flew pretty quickly. I should do it again.
I have knitted with wire. I made a necklace and a bracelet. I have also crocheted a necklace. I loved the look of them but RPS made me stop. But however the use of beads got me hooked on beading and my knitting elbow doesn’t hurt so much.
Sarah, you are just too funny. I have to thank you for a good laugh when I saw the newsletter with the poll question “Have you ever knit with wire?” followed by the link to “Double Broken Rib”, how appropos . I know it wasn’t intentional, but a quick glance could bring you up short .
I have tried knitting with wire once before but I suspect I had the wrong gauge wire, plus it was while my bursitis was active. I would like to give it a whirl again, especially now that craft wire is much more easily available.
Yeah, that was just a coincidence, but it is, in fact, a funny one. I think a broken arm would be more likely than a broken rib, though.
I haven’t tried it but as soon as I get this baby blanket done, I know what my next knitting project will be! As my hubby would say ‘add it to the list’ but I don’t think I will wait on this one! Thanks for the great info!
I have experimented with knitted wire. It was kind of a no-brainer for me, as I once used a jury-rigged knitting spool to knit a wire tube in a jewelry class.
