From the article: What is the State of the Knitting Business Like?
Some of us have the luxury of having one (or even several) local yarn shops nearby that we can support and go to for help and community. Others only live near a huge craft store, while still others have no local options for yarn. Where do you do most of your shopping, and how do you feel about the idea that shopping online is bad for the locals, or whether you see all parts of the industry as working together. The Internet
- I have to travel a bit to my local yarn shop, so I purchase a lot on the internet. I haven't been disappointed yet, and can get the colors I want.

Supply Shopping
- I go to the kniiting shops to drool; and if I can find the same thing less expensively elsewhere, such as at a chain craft store, I will buy it. BUT, sometimes the best supplies are only available for a premium price, and sometimes I'm willing to pay for gorgeous. I like to be able to fondle the goods, which is hard to do online.

Fabulous Yarn Shop
- It's a shame some folks have such a hard time finding yarn. There is a great yarn shop in Central Massachusetts that has quality yarns and friendly service.

knitting supply shopping
- I will shop anywhere, I have 2 major craft stores here and 3 knitting shops but I will buy yarn and supplies anywhere. However, for a special project, I will look at the knitting shops first.

Where I Shop for Yarn
- Where I live there isn't a local yarn store around, so I purchase about all of my yarn from the Internet. One of my very favorites is Discontinued Name Brand Yarn. They have excellent prices and fast deliveries.

yarn purchases
- local yarn stores.craft expos, and last resort is the internet..I like to be able to not only see the true color (not always accurate with browsers) but to touch the yarn and feel the texture so I know what I will be working with..this is especially important for gifts. I also do not want to pay a lot of money for expensive yarn that has not a soft touch! Sometimes you just have to check out or wait for major craft shows and save the $$$s until one is available.

I get it online.
- It's mixed bag. I certainly want to support the local knitting store. But with 3 kids and a husband who works nights it's just easier to order online at midnight when I actually catch a break. Some of these sites have chat which is also really helpful at times.
