Terry's Sock Patterns

My most favorite socks

How Do You Like It?

I love how my socks turned out.

Why Did You Choose This Pattern?

This pattern is my own design.

Would You Recommend it to Others?

Yes, I believe beginning sock knitters would enjoy making these socks.

My Project

This pattern is one I designed myself because I couldn't find an easy beginner's pattern for toe-up socks. I gathered together a lot of tips, tricks, photos, and also demonstration videos so that a true beginning sock knitter would have the best chance for following the pattern and knitting a good pair of socks. After a lot of research, trial and error, this pattern is the result.

Yarn Used

I have made this pattern in a sport weight wool and also in acrylic yarn, using size 3 or 4 U.S. needles, and in a DK weight on sizes 6, 7, or 8 U.S. needles. Many are shown in the photo.

I prefer making these socks with wool because it is much more comfortable next to the skin and the wool socks just seem to fit better than the acrylic. Plus, now that we have Superwash Merino wool yarn, even wool socks can be machine washed, though still line-dried.

Lessons Learned

  • This pattern taught me many lessons: the lessons of patience and humility while designing a pattern; the lesson of courage to be creative in this new endeavor and the courage to allow myself to fail and still try again; the lesson of dedication, to complete such a project; and finally, the lesson of gratitude to my late Mom, for her creativity in knitting socks, and for her courage and dedication in teaching me to knit so many years ago.
