Serene Stitches:

Deborah Norville's Serenity line for Premier Yarns is full of basic, hard-working yarns that are also soft and pleasant to use and wear. Such is the case with Serenity Worsted Weight, a nice go-to yarn for a variety of projects.

If you're a knitter who likes to work with acrylic yarn, you'll likely find this one to your liking.

Specifications:

  • Content: 55 percent super-fine nylon, 45 percent super-fine acrylic
  • Yarn weight: Medium
  • Gauge: Ball band says 4 to 5 stitches per inch on size 7 to 9 US knitting needles; I got 16 stitches and 24 rows per 4 inches (4 stitches per inch) on size 8 needles
  • Yardage: 186 yards per 3.5 ounce (100 gram) skein
  • Color availability: 52 solids
  • Color used in swatch: Canary
  • Care instructions: Machine wash inside out, warm water; tumble dry low; do not iron or bleach

Knitting:

The exact same combination of fibers is used in Serenity Worsted Weight as is used in Serenity Sport Weight, but I think I like the combination better in the finer yarn. This yarn feels more artificial and a little stiff; an impression that goes away somewhat after the fabric is blocked.

The yarn has great stitch definition and produces very even stitches. That combined with the wide range of colors (in the same colors as the sport weight) would make this yarn ideal for any number of colorwork projects.

It feels and acts much the same as other big-name acrylic yarns out there, but with a slightly nicer feel.

Uses for Serenity Worsted Weight:

Serenity Worsted Weight would be a good choice for any projects you'd normally use acrylic yarn for. I think this may be my new go-to yarn for charity knitting projects that need to be knit in a washable yarn: the nice colors and ease of working with this yarn, as well as the nice, smooth feel of the finished fabric make this one a winner.

It would also be great for projects for kids, home decor, pet projects and any other time you want a nice, durable yarn.

Bottom Line:

Serenity Worsted is very easy to work with. It didn't split at all as I worked with it, was smooth on the needles and didn't curl much in Stockinette (although the very edge stitches still curl under even after blocking).

At $4.50 a skein you get a lot of value and a wide range of colors to spark your creativity and allow you to make washable projects that are also comfortable to wear and nice to look at.
