Knit 5 of the stitches from the heel onto this needle. The back of the heel is now the end of the round. Slip the remaining 5 stitches of the heel onto the needle with the other gusset stitches. 46 stitches total.

Round 1: Knit to the last 3 stitches of needle 1, knit 2 together, knit 1. Work across the leg as normal. At the beginning of needle 3, knit 1, ssk, knit to end.

Round 2: Knit.

Repeat these two rounds until 32 stitches remain.

Knitting the Foot and Toe:

Work even in Stockinette Stitch until piece measures about 7 inches from back of heel.

Switch back to color A and work toe shaping as follows:

Round 1: Knit to 3 stitches from end of first needle, k2tog, knit 1. On second needle, knit 1, ssk, knit to 3 stitches from end of needle, k2tog, knit 1. On third needle, knit 1, ssk, knit to end.

Repeat these 2 rounds until 16 stitches remain. Knit another round with no decreasing, then work the decrease round every round until 8 stitches remain. Work across the second part of the heel stitches and stop here, mid-row.

Cut yarn and graft the toe closed or simply thread all the stitches onto a yarn needle and pull tight.

Make a second sock in the same way.
