Sometimes it's great to have a quick knitting project that looks a little more dramatic than it is because the yarn does all the work for you. That's the case with this Thick and Thin Stockinette Stitch Scarf.

The yarn, Red Heart Boutique Cosmic, is a super-bulky yarn that also has some really thin areas, which makes Stockinette Stitch a lot more interesting than it usually is. The thick and thin nature of the yarn adds texture and depth, and the cast on and bind off edges look almost scalloped without any work on your part.

  • one skein Red Heart Boutique Cosmic (I used color 9533, Berry)
  • one pair size 15 US (10 mm) knitting needles
  • scissors and crochet hook or yarn needle

Gauge is not critical and will vary through the project, given the thick and thin nature of the yarn, but I got roughly 2 stitches per inch.

Finished scarf is about 5.5 inches wide and 42 inches long.

  1. Cast on 12 stitches.
  2. Work in Stockinette Stitch until piece measures about 42 inches or you're almost out of yarn.
  3. Bind off loosely.
  4. Cut yarn and weave in ends.
