Some knitters might be turned off by a book with a booty on the cover, but those who pick up Ashley Paige's Sexy Little Knits will be rewarded with projects that feel like summer, whether they're meant to be worn by the pool on in the bedroom.
Ashley Paige is known as a designer of swimwear, particularly knit and crocheted bathing suits and her work has been featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue and bodies from Britney Spears to Carmen Electra.
Beginning in the summer of 2008, Paige was featured on a reality TV show depicting her troubles with finances even though she's "made it big."
The Patterns
The book doesn't contain any knitting or crochet instructions, but it does have 25 patterns divided into three chapters:
- Peace, Love and Bikinis: bikini tops and bottoms, and one one-piece suit with a mesh middle
- Sunshine, Good Vibes: tops, shorts, dresses and other clothes to wear to the beach or in the city
- Cozy Homebodies: clothes for the bedroom, including a robe, nightgown and tops and bottoms
Fifteen of the patterns are for knitters, including two of the bikinis, a hemp V-neck top, a very hole-filled lacy coverup, a few more tops, a jumper (and a sleeper), two cute dresses and plenty of cute things for the bedroom.
As the name states, most of these projects are, indeed, sexy (even the robe is pretty darn short), so these projects shouldn't be approached by knitters who aren't in some sense brave.
Most of the projects are not too difficult and could be finished by people on the advanced beginner level. Sizes generally range from about 33 inches for small to 39 inches for large, but most of the projects seem geared toward smaller girls.
Some of my favorite projects include the Little Mermaid Strapless top, knit in a cotton-elastic blend yarn, and the Heart Babydoll Halter Dress, a skimpy halter dress with eyelets in heart shapes running down the front and back of the skirt.
This book has the sun-kissed feel of a day on the beach and is full of fun patterns for knitters who like to take a walk on the wilder side.
Publication date: May 2006.
