You might have heard of Deborah Newton because of her wonderful book Designing Knitwear; now she's offering 10 of her patterns for classic lacy sweaters in the booklet Knits to Be Noticed from Leisure Arts.
If you like sweaters that offer a little something more than the basics, you'll like these projects that use lace, cables and textured knitting stitches.
The Patterns
Knits to Be Noticed contains 10 sweater patterns geared toward intermediate knitters who want to show off their skills in eye-catching garments.
The projects all contain some kind of lace patterns, whether eyelets, allover patterns or lace panels, alone or in combination with cables and other textured knitting.
They're striking but at the same time not too difficult for knitters who are comfortable with lace knitting and garment construction.
My favorite pattern in the booklet is the Hooded Lace Jacket, which features an allover lace pattern and Garter Stitch trim and is worked in a lovely cotton yarn.
Other standouts include the Basketweave Raglan Pullover, which combines basketweave, a center cable, a bit of lace and a turtleneck; and the Lace Bolero knit in one piece with a cool flowing block lace pattern.
Some basic knitting information, mostly about how to make increases and decreases, is included in the back of the booklet.
Knits to Be Noticed is a great little book for people who are interested in sweaters that aren't plain or for a newly intermediate knitter looking for a good challenge and a dramatic piece to add to her wardrobe.
