Show your spirit with a simple hat emblazoned with USA or the name of any team you support. This hat is worked mostly in Stockinette Stitch in the round with a deep area of ribbing that can be folded up. The USA or other letters or word is applied after the knitting is done using duplicate stitch.

This is a great basic hat pattern for women or men and could also be worked in stripes or embellished in many other ways.

Materials

  • one ball Cascade 220 Superwash (I used color 813) or about 125 (140) yards of medium weight yarn of your choice
  • medium weight yarn in color of your choice for lettering (I used red)
  • size 7 US (4.5 mm) circular needle, 16-inch cable
  • set of size 7 US (4.5 mm) double-pointed needles
  • yarn needle
  • USA chart (optional)

Gauge

20 stitches and 24 rounds per 4 inches (5 stitches and 6 rounds per inch) in Stockinette Stitch in the round.

Size

Finished hat is 18 (21.5) inches around and 9 (11) inches tall, for a snug fit on a woman (man). Instructions are given in the smaller size first with the larger size in parentheses.
