Bibs are great for keeping baby's outfit clean, but getting them on and then getting them to stay on can be something of a challenge.
This simple little bib is a quick and easy knit, and is designed to slip over baby's head without any tie, toggles or buttons to fuss with.
Materials:
- 1 ball Lily Sugar'n Cream in shade 02741 Playtime, or about 40 yards of medium weight yarn of your choice
- pair of size 7 US (4.5 mm) knitting needles
- size 7 US (4.5 mm) 16 inch circular needle
Gauge:
4 stitches and 6 rows to 1 inch in stockinette stitch.
Size:
Approximately 7.25 inches wide by 8.5 inches long.

- With the circular needle, cast on 60 stitches and join in the round, being careful not to twist.
- Work in double rib for about 1.5 inches.
- Bind off 28, knit to end of round.
- Turn, and continue working back and forth in rows for the remainder of the bib. You can switch to straight needles now if you prefer.
- Next row (WS): slip first stitch purlwise, K2, purl to last 3 stitches, K2, P1.
- Slip first stitch knitwise, knit to end.
- Repeat these two rows until piece measures about 7.5 inches from cast on edge, ending with WS row.
- Next row: slip first stitch knitwise, K2, ssk, knit to last 5 stitches, k2tog, K3. (30 stitches)
- Slip first stitch purlwise, K2, purl to last 3 stitches, K2, P1.
- Slip first stitch knitwise, K2, ssk, K to last 5 stitches, k2tog, K3. (28 stitches)
- Slip first stitch purlwise, K2, ssk, K to last 5 sts, k2tog, K2, P1. (26 stitches)
- Slip first stitch knitwise, K2, ssk, K to last 5 sts, k2tog, K3. (24 stitches)
- Slip first stitch purlwise, K2, ssk, K to last 5 sts, k2tog, K2, P1. (22 stitches)
- Bind off all stitches.
- Weave in ends and block if desired.
