No shaping is involved in this little squared off hat, and you can let your imagination go wild with the embellishments, using I-cords, tassels or ribbons at the corners. The slip stitch pattern is an oldie but a goodie and always looks more complicated than it really is.

Materials:

  • 1 skein of Red Heart Soft Yarn in 9770 Rose Blush, or about 90 yards of medium/worsted weight yarn or of your choice
  • Pair size 8 US (5 mm) needles
  • Spare size 8 US (5 mm) needles for bind off
  • Scissors, tape measure and yarn needle
  • Crochet hook and scrap of contrast yarn

Gauge:

4.25 stitches and 6.5 rows per inch in Stockinette Stitch

Size:

Preemie (Newborn, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 24 months)

Finished hat circumference: 12 (13, 13, 14, 15, 16) inches

Note: Babies' head sizes can vary a lot -- please go by the circumference you want, not necessarily the age guideline.
