Definition:

Cable is a panel of 11 stitches.

Row 1 (wrong side): Knit 2, (purl 1 through the back loop, knit 1) 3 times, purl 1 through the back loop, knit 2.

Row 2: Purl 2, slip 3 stitches onto cable needle and hold in front, (knit 1 through the back loop, purl 1) twice, then knit 1 through back loop, purl 1, knit 1 through back loop off cable needle, purl 2.

Row 3, 5, 7, 9: Repeat row 1.

Rows 4, 6, 8, 10: Purl 2 (knit 1 through back loop, purl 1) 3 times, purl 2.

Note: The pattern as described above will make a front-crossing cable (twist to the left). To make a back-crossing or right-twisting cable, purl 2, slip 4 stitches onto cable needle and hold in back, knit 1 tbl, purl 1, knit 1 tbl, then (purl 1, knit 1 tbl) twice on stitches on cable needle, purl 2.
