St. Patrick's Day Necklace

St. Patrick's Day "Necklace."

Sarah White

Wearing O' the Green:

Everyone has to have a little something green for St. Patrick's Day, and this little something is sure to get you noticed. This "necklace" takes its inspiration from a skinny scarf and a feather boa and is the perfect accessory for a St. Patrick's Day party.

Materials:

  • a small scrap ball of medium-weight acrylic or cotton yarn (I used Red Heart Super Saver in Paddy Green)
  • two size 8 U.S. double-pointed needles
  • scissors
  • tapestry needle
  • small piece of cardboard to make pom-poms

Size

Finished project is about three-quarters of an inch wide and 45 inches long, not counting pom-poms. Gauge is unimportant for this project.

Instructions:

  1. Cast on six stitches.
  2. Work as an I-cord for 45 inches or to desired length.
  3. Bind off.
  4. Use tapestry needle to weave in ends.
  5. Using a small piece of cardboard as your template, make two pom-poms.
  6. Use one end of the string tied around the pom-pom to attach one to each end of the I-cord piece.

To Wear:

This "necklace" may be wrapped around the neck a couple of times so that it is short like a necklace, or it can be worn long like a scarf. You could also wear it as a belt. Have fun with it!
