The Grace Note stitch pattern is a lovely lacy pattern that has a similar look to the musical notation known as grace note, which is an accent note played just before a more substantial note.

It's written as a staff and flag with a diagonal strikethrough, which looks similar to this lovely pattern stitch.

This Graceful Shawl is made up of a series of three pattern repeats with an extra knit stitch on each edge and between each panel. If you don't want so much space between the lace panels, you can omit these stitches.

This can be worn as a skinny wrap, shawl or scarf, or even tied at the waist like a belt.

Materials:

  • three skeins Sublime Angora Merino or around 400 yards of light weight merino
  • one pair size 7 US needles
  • scissors
  • yarn needle

20 stitches and 20 rows per four inches (five stitches and five rows per inch) in pattern.

Finished size is 10 inches wide and five feet long.

  1. Cast on 49 stitches.
  2. Work the Grace Note pattern (below), three times across each row. On the knit side, knit the first stitch, one stitch between each pattern repeat and the last stitch of the row. On the purl side, purl across.
  3. Continue until piece measures about five feet (60 inches) long, ending with row 16.
