Working with super bulky yarn on big needles always makes quick work of a project, but when that project is a super-simple scrubber/washcloth you'll really have the project on and off the needles in no time at all.

I think it took me less than 45 minutes to stitch up this sample, which was actually my swatch for my review of the yarn, Lion Brand Fettuccini, and you could make several out of a single ball to fuel your spring cleaning efforts or to give as part of a gift.

  • one ball of Lion Brand Fettuccini, or about 12 yards homemade T-shirt yarn or other super-bulky yarn of your choices
  • one pair size 15 US (10 mm) knitting needles
  • tape measure, scissors and yarn needle or crochet hook

Gauge is not critical but I got 9 stitches and 11 rows per 4 inches in Stockinette Stitch.

Finished cloth is 7 inches square.

Knitting the Washcloth:

  1. Cast on 14 stitches.
  2. Knit 2 rows.
  3. Beginning with a wrong side (purl) row, begin to work the center 10 stitches in Stockinette, leaving the outside 2 stitches on each side in Garter Stitch (so, this row would be knit 2, purl 10, knit 2; next row k across and so on)
  4. Work until piece is about 6 inches long, ending on a right side row.
  5. Knit 2 rows.
  6. Bind off.
  7. Cut yarn and weave in ends.
