To finish the second stitch of single crochet, wrap the yarn over the hook one more time and pull it through both of the loops on the hook, leaving one loop to work the next stitch on.

Continue in this manner across the edge of the work. When you reach the corner, work stitches on both sides to prevent the corner from curling, then continue up the side in the same manner.
