Finishing the Hat:

Sew the seam down the back of the hat through the selvedge stitches to keep it neat and line up the edges so pattern stays consistent.

Knitting the Ruffle:

With contrasting color yarn and circular needle, pick up and knit 72 (88, 104) stitches around brim of hat along the cast on edge. Place marker at beginning of round.

  1. Knit 4 rounds.
  2. Increase by knitting in the front and back of all stitches. 144 (176, 208) stitches.
  3. Knit the next round.
  4. Knit in the front and back of all stitches again. 288 (352, 416) stitches.
  5. Knit the next round.
  6. Bind off loosely.

Knit the Rose:

  1. With contrasting color yarn, cast on 12 stitches and purl 1 row.
  2. Kfb across row (24 stitches).
  3. Purl the next row.
  4. Kfb across row (48 stitches).
  5. Purl the next row.
  6. Kfb across row; (96 stitches).
  7. Purl the next row.
  8. Bind off loosely.

Twist rose piece into a flower shape and stitch the petals together to secure. Attach rose to side of hat. Weave in all ends.
