  1. Using a provisional cast on, cast on 102 (118, 122, 126, 130, 138, 142, 146) stitches and join in the round, being careful not to twist.
  2. Place markers at beginning and halfway through round to designate the front and back.
  3. Work in Stockinette Stitch (knit every round) for 6 (6, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8) rounds.
  4. Purl one round.
  5. Work in Stockinette Stitch for 6 (6, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8) more rounds.
  6. Work the hem as follows:
    • Unzip the waste yarn from the provisional cast on and place stitches on a needle (a smaller sizes needle makes this easier).
    • Fold the piece in half lengthwise -- the purl row should form an edge.; Knit the stitches from the provisional cast on together with your main stitches across entire round.
  7. Continue knitting in Stockinette until piece measures 4 (5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 7) inches from the hemmed edge.
  8. Work Beaded Peace Sign Chart as follows: K10 (14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, 21), work row 1 of chart, K10 (14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, 21), slip marker, knit to end of round.
  9. Continue as established in previous round, working the chart on the front and in Stockinette on the back.
  10. When piece measures 9 (10, 10.25, 10.5, 10.75, 11.25, 11.5, 11.75) inches from hemmed edge, work the armholes -- AT THE SAME TIME continuing to work the Beaded Peace Sign Chart.

Shape Armholes:

  1. On an even (non-beaded) row, work across the front.
  2. Stop 4 (4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6) stitches before marker and BO 8 (8, 8, 10, 10, 10, 12, 12) stitches -- 4 (4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6) before marker and 4 (4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6) after.
  3. Work 43 (51, 53, 53, 55, 59, 59, 61) stitches on back, which brings you to 4 (4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6) stitches before marker, BO 8 (8, 8, 10, 10, 10, 12, 12).
  4. You are about to work the 43 (51, 53, 53, 55, 59, 59, 61) stitches of the front on a beaded row.
  5. Put the 43 (51, 53, 53, 55, 59, 59, 61) of the back on a holder.
  6. Place row counter at row 1 and work the front back and forth in rows, continuing to work the Peace Sign Chart, and then working in Stockinette once the chart is finished.
  7. When piece measures 12.5 (13, 13.5, 14, 14.5, 15, 15.5, 16) inches, ending with a wrong side row, shape the Front Neck.
