A Ripple Stitch Block.

Knitting Ripples:

Ripple Stitch is a lot of fun to knit and becomes a quick project because it's so hard to pout down -- you just want to keep watching those ripples materialize. The stitch adds a nice surprise to a sampler afghan knitting project.

Materials:

  • about 100 yards of the worsted weight yarn of your choice (I used Plymouth Encore color 514)
  • one pair size 8 US knitting needles
  • scissors and yarn needle

Gauge:

16 stitches per 4 inches, or 4 stitches per inch.

Size:

12 by 12 inch block.

Instructions:

  1. Cast on 46 stitches.
  2. Work in Ripple Pattern stitch as follows:

    Row 1: K6, *P2, K6. Repeat from *.

    Row 2: K1, *P4, K4. Repeat from * to last 5 sts, P4, K1.

    Row 3: P2, *K2, P2. Repeat from *.

    Row 4: P1, *K4, P4. Repeat from * to last 5 sts, K4, P1.

    Row 5: K2, *P2, K6. Repeat from * to last 4 sts, P2, K2.

    Row 6: P6, *K2, P6. Repeat from *.

    Row 7: P1, *K4, P4. Repeat from * to last 5 sts, K4, P1.

    Row 8: K2, *P2, K2. Repeat from *.

    Row 9: K1, *P4, K4. Repeat from * to last 5 sts, P4, K1.

    Row 10: P2, *K2, P6. Repeat from * to last 4 sts, K2, P2.

  3. Work until piece measures 12 inches.
  4. Bind off and weave in ends.
