Crossed Stitch:

Crossed Stockinette Stitch is no more difficult than the garden variety, but it looks a lot more interesting when it's finished. Unfortunately, it does still curl like the standard stuff, so when you use this in a sampler afghan you might want to plan for a border that will eliminate some of the curl.

Materials:

  • about 100 yards of the worsted weight yarn of your choice (I used Plymouth Encore color 1231
  • one pair size 8 US knitting needles
  • scissors and yarn needle

Gauge:

20 stitches per 4 inches, or 5 stitches per inch.

Size:

12 by 12 inch block.

Instructions:

  1. Cast on 60 stitches.
  2. Work in Crossed Stockinette Stitch as follows:

Row 1: Knit through the back loop of each stitch.

    Row 2: Purl.

  3. Continue in pattern until piece measures 12 inches.
  4. Bind off in pattern. Weave in ends.
