If you're new to knitting socks you might not want to invest in a big book of sock patterns because you might not stick with the hobby, or you may choose a book whose patterns are beyond what you feel comfortable with. That's why little collections of patterns are so great, because even if you don't knit all of them, you haven't spent a lot of money.

And so it is with Leisure Arts Socks, a book of 8 patterns that includes socks for men, women and children. Good for knitters who know the basics, this book is plenty portable, inexpensive and has some nice basic (ribbed legs, for instance) socks as well as a couple that are a little more detailed.

This one would be a great gift, along with a ball of yarn, for someone you know is getting into sock knitting.
