Knit a Huge Garter Stitch Cowl

By February 11, 2013

I was feeling for all the people piled under snow this weekend even as we basked in an unseasonably warm day yesterday yet preparing for the snow we're supposed to be getting tomorrow by putting the finishing touches on my Garter Stitch Striped Cowl.

This giant piece of knitting (a 70-inch loop that's more than 8 inches wide) is worked in three colors of wool yarn for a super warm wrapper you can wear long or wrap around your neck twice. I like it striped -- and it helped clear out some of my stash of Cascade 220, almost all of which is single hanks of any one color -- but of course you could make it solid, or use two colors, or a whole bunch of colors if you have little bits of medium weight yarn you're trying to work through.

However you knit it this project is sure to keep you cozy no matter what winter has left in store for us.
