Learn to Knit or Boost Your Skills

By January 1, 2013

Follow me on:

I think a lot of people who want to learn to knit start thinking about learning around this time of year (or whenever it's cold where they live!), and the rest of us often think of the new year as a good time to build up our knitting skills or to resolve to try something we haven't done before.

Whichever boat you're in, I have a lot of resources to help.

If you're a new knitter (welcome, you're going to love it here!) might I suggest my big old post called Learn to Knit, which has links to all sorts of information you need to know as you knit your first swatches and projects.

If you're wanting to try your hand at some kind of color knitting, here's another good roundup of the basics with links to go deeper and patterns to try.

Ready to tackle lace? Look at my tips for reading a lace chart and using a lifeline, which is a huge help when you're new to the genre?

Thinking of cable knitting? Here's how to make the most basic kinds of cables: left and right slanting.

As usual, if you've got a specific request and can't find an article on the topic (reorganizing this site is one of my resolutions this year!) please let me know and I'll see what I can do to help!
