Knit Something Nice for Yourself

By December 26, 2012

Now that holiday knitting is done, I've declared it time to knit something nice for yourself. Of course I'm not actually doing this, or at least not completely. I'm working on a quick Moss Stitch hat for my daughter as well as a dropped stitch scarf for myself.

But if you're ready to get a project on your needles that's just for you, I have a couple of ideas.

The Candle Flame Cowl is one of my favorites. It knits up pretty quickly in bulky yarn and will keep you nice and warm in wintry weather. If you work it in a bright color, too, it will probably make your smile a little warmer, too.

If you're up for something more delicate, the Grace Note Shawl is a beauty and a great slightly complicated lace project (it's not too bad, because there are still purl rows, but you do have to pay attention).

Another shawl I love is the simple Yarn Over Shawl, which basically has a triangle shape with little wings added on to make it fit a bit better. If you got some pretty yarn for Christmas, this might be just the thing.

Are you knitting something for yourself? I'd love to hear about it!

I’m knitting myself 2 garments, a summer cardigan, and a sleeveless lace top. I gave my daughter a lace tie back blouse i had knitted for Xmas, and was relieved & very happy to hear that she was wearing it on boxing day. It’s a great fit, looks lovely and feels so soft that it will be one of her favourite summer items. I created a spreadsheet of the instructions and knitted it in the round.

It’s summer here in Australia, a wonderful time to find out the true pleasure of knitting lace.
