It can be difficult to shop for fellow crafters. We know what strong opinions we have about things, and our crafty friends are the same way.
I think it's super nice to make handmade gifts for people who are also makers, because people don't usually do that, but if you don't want to go that route it would be really fun -- to shop for, give and/or receive -- to make a knitting kit to give to one of your knitting friends.
I like to make up knitting kits with a basic pattern, yarn and needles for people when I teach them to knit, but you can do this for knitters with more experience, too. Pick out a pattern you think they'll love, buy some excellent yarn and needles and wrap it up pretty (or put it in a project bag) and you'll have a really special gift that you and the recipient both will remember for a long time.
And if picking a pattern and yarn for someone else is too much pressure for you, just buy them a great book and get a gift card from your local yarn store. It will still be loved and appreciated but your friend can choose what she wants to make.
Has anyone ever done anything like this before? I'd love to hear about it!
