Knitting with Square Needles

By September 26, 2012

Follow me on:

The other day I talked about Kollage's Sqaure knitting needles now being made in the United States. They sent me some needles to play with and it was a lot of fun trying them out! The stitches are definitely smooth and even with these needles, and I think they seemed a little easier on my body than regular knitting needles, though I haven't really worked with them enough to know that for sure (I'll let you know when I find out!).

The one thing you need to know about these needles is that they won't give you the same gauge you would get on a same-size round needle, so be aware of that if you're purchasing needles for a particular project. They recommend going a needle size bigger than the yarn or gauge of a pattern suggests, and I found that to work pretty well as well.

If you've used these needles before or give them a try, I'd love to hear what you think!

I purchased a set of 2.25 mm Knitter’s Pride cubics dpns for my sock knitting. I loved them instantly. They are so comfortable to use with no strain on your grip. The yarn does not slip and slide as it can do on round needles and the biggest surprise and satisfaction was the stitch definition – so clear and consistent.. Am going to invest in more !

I love, Love, LOVE the Kollage square needles! I’m slowly changing all of my needles to Kollage as I work new projects. The fabric that they produce is so much smoother than what I’ve ever achieved with any other brand. Though I’ve been using their needles for years, I’m excited about the new, sharper tip on the redesigned ones. Also the finish on the new ones seems to be less slippery, so the stitch control is greater. What’s not to love about these new needles?

Thanks for the insight! I like them but am afraid I couldn’t use them for designing because the gauge is different. But just for me knitting they’ll be fun.
