Here at About.com Knitting you can not only learn new knitting techniques, you can also try them out with lots of free patterns.
The most basic stranded knitting project is one in which the colors change every stitch. My Two-Color Coffee Cup Cozy does just that, and it makes and extra-warm carrier for your coffee or hot beverage. Because it's worked on an odd number of stitches the colors automatically alternate on each round, and you can just keep knitting and knitting without thinking. This is a good one for practicing working with one yarn in each hand.
Another easy way to add stranded knitting to a project is making a checkerboard pattern, as in my Fleece Earwarmer. If you're a sock knitter you can do the same thing on my Women's Fair Isle Socks, which look a lot more complicated than they are thanks to the use of a multicolored yarn along with a solid color.
If you're ready for more of a challenge, try the Fair Isle Bottle Cozy or the Snowflake Hat. These both have classic Fair Isle-style patterns on them that will require you to read and follow a chart, but the results are well worth it.
