There wasn't a lot of knitting news out there when I looked this week; perhaps the fascination with the knitty arts ebbs a bit after the holidays? No matter, there are still some great stories out there, such as the story of Wyn Clark, a knitter from Ballarat (that's in Australia) who just knit her 1,500th Trauma Teddy, which are dolls distributed by the Red Cross to people going through trauma. She's knit the dolls for 10 years, and though the 87-year-old has been knitting since she was 6, she never purls.
Elderly Brit knitters have been busy helping kids in Eastern Europe through Operation Christmas Child and for AIDS orphans in Africa, while a 76-year-old New Hampshire woman got knitting supplies through a group that grants wishes for seniors that she's now using to knit items for the Salvation Army.
Finally, Katherine Heigl is a known knitter and is set to produce and star in the HBO movie based on the novel The Knitting Circle, and she was recently spotted stocking up on some pink super bulky at a New York City yarn store. She was out with her mom for the day, and while the article notes she bought "vast amounts" of yarn, that's really only enough for one project.
