Working with Two Yarns at the Same Time

One easy way to add a bit of color to a piece of knitting -- as well as automatically making the knitting go faster because your yarn will be bulkier -- is to work with two strands of yarn at the same time that are different colors. A bold color paired with a more dramatic color, as in my Moss Stitch Headband, tones down the boldness of the one color and makes the other more interesting.

Or you can add color to (lots and lots) of color, as in my Child's Poncho, which started with a base of purpley pink and added more pink on top. This is an excellent way to use up bits and pieces of extra yarn you have lying around but still make it look somewhat harmonious because the one color never changes so there's a background of commonality throughout the project.

I love working with two strands because it does make the knitting faster and it is a super-easy way to add a bit of color to your knitting without having to think about stripes or another color technique. Is this something you do, too? I'd love to hear about how you've worked with two strands at once.
