For one thing, the bulky yarn means it won't take any time at all to knit, so you won't be sweltering under your project. And it's not so hot yet that you can't still knit with wool (besides, that's why we have air conditioning). Even if it was, I think it's fun to knit some wooly projects when it's warm out to remind myself that cool weather will come around again (because as much as I've been complaining about fickle weather this spring, you can bet I'll be wishing for a cold snap in a couple of months).
Another fun aspect of this bag is the ribbon woven through the cable pattern, which adds a nice little bit of something extra and can easily be changed to coordinate with outfits or your whim.
