Speaking of Kristi Porter, she's got a new book out that's a variation on the theme. More Knitting in the Sun offers 32 patterns for accessories, tops, bottoms and cardigans all for kids between the ages of 2 and 12. The projects are really cute and use lightweight yarns, cropped styles, lace and looser knitting to make them projects lighter than they might need to be for cooler weather.

While most of us would think of these patterns as being just for the summer, Porter lives in Southern California and reminds us that some people get to dress like this all year long. And you can always have your child throw a sleeveless dress on top of a long-sleeved T-shirt to extend the life of a project in cooler climates.

No matter where you live, there are a lot of fun projects here you'll want to knit for the kids in your life. And all the patterns are named for characters in children's books, so you can quiz yourself and see which ones you recognize from kids' stories.
