My little girl is wonderful in a lot of ways, but she's pretty vexing because she really doesn't like to wear hats. Sometimes if I wear a hat around the house before we're going out in the cold, she'll keep hers on. For a few minutes.

But one thing she does love is to put things around her neck, superhero style. When I gave her a box of knits to play with and she went to town putting cowls over her head, I knew I needed to devise a baby scarf that could be sewn together at the edges or have a button closure to help keep it on.

Thus, the Baby Cape was born. It really is just a scarf with a button, but because it's so wide (for an infant) it spreads out over her shoulders and looks more like a wrap or a shawl. Plus, it's just fun to say "time to put your cape on!"

She wasn't too sure about the thing at first (usually putting something around her neck has to be her idea) but she soon enough warmed up to this warm, fluffy, fuzzy cover up. At least it makes me feel a little bit better that she won't freeze to death on the way to the car. And if she ever decides she wants to wear her hat, at least they coordinate.

What a great idea! I made myself something very similar, without the button — a cowl that slips over my head and keeps my neck and ears toasty warm! :)
