No matter the size a baby is when he or she is born, all babies need a blanket or two to help keep them warm. Bigger kids enjoy having blankets they can carry around and snuggle with wherever they happen to be.

Knit blankets are a great choice because they're soft, cuddly and, if you plan it right, can be machine washed. Leisure Arts shares a nice collection of 34 baby afghan and blanket patterns in Our Best Knit Baby Afghans, Book 2.

The patterns are for a range of skill levels but most are straightforward, bottom-up designs with borders that are knit as the main body of the blanket is knit. They use all sorts of embellishments such as textured stitches, eyelets, bobbles, two-color knitting, mitered squares and more.

If you love to knit baby blankets and blankets for bigger kids and are looking for some new patterns to add to your repertoire, this book has some good ideas you, mom and baby are sure to like.
