Stripes for Little Heads

I don't remember if I cast on before we left the hospital, but I know that the Striped Baby Hat was the first thing that I knit for my little one after I realized how little she was. I didn't exactly use the sort of yarn you might pick if you were knitting charity items for preemies (hospitals usually ask for washable items, and I used wool because I has some handy) but I wanted to keep my little one warm and knew that I could always hand wash the hat if I needed to.

This hat is really easy and you can change up the stripe pattern or use a different color for every stripe if you like. This one didn't fit my baby for very long (she grew fast!), but it has pride of place in a shadowbox that I made with a bunch of baby things to remind me how small she once was.

I sized the pattern up for bigger babies, too, and it's really easy to custom fit by adding or subtracting a few stitches (as you can see, it's made to be snug, so you can add a few stitches if you don't need such a cozy fit, too).
