Earlier this week, Interweave Press launched its latest innovation in getting us all hooked on as many fiber arts as possible. Sockupied is a digital knitting magazine devoted completely to socks, and it has a lot of fun interactive features, patterns and tips that are sure the pique the interest of sock fanatics and those who want to learn more about why anyone would ever want to spend so much time knitting something that goes into a shoe.
Sockupied, © Interweave Press. This issue includes "feet on the street" interviews with sock knitters, a look at a half-dozen special sets of double-pointed knitting needles, an overview of cashmere-blend sock yarns, quick reviews of sock knitting products and online sock calculators, 10 suggestions for altering sock patterns to fit your feet, four ways to cast on top-down socks for looks and comfort, a pattern from Ann Budd using the Channel Island cast on, an interview with and pattern from sock design innovator Cookie A, a pattern from Debbie O'Neill that works with both solid and multicolored yarn and a cartoon from Franklin Habit.
In all there are 15 videos and other interactive features such as slideshows and pictures you can click for more information about a product. The emag is available for download by both Mac and PC users for $14.95, and you should receive the link to download it within minutes of placing your order.
I really enjoyed looking through the magazine, learning about some products I hadn't seen before and seeing some cool new sock patterns. It seems like there's always more to learn when it comes to sock knitting, and Sockupied is both educational, entertaining and inspiring to those who've knit a pair or two (or 20) and want to learn more about their obsession.
This is the second emag Interweave has published so far this year. The first had to do with quilting, and the next one, due out in October, will be called Spin-Knit and will feature information on spinning and knitting patterns to make with your handspun goodness.
