A Saint's-inspired fleur de lis knititng chart, (c) Sarah E. White.I know there are at least some football fans out there in knitter land, as well as some knitters who knit for football fans. Yesterday's big day of football will lead to a historic matchup in the Super Bowl in a couple of weeks, with the New Orleans Saints playing in the big game (against the Indianapolis Colts) for the first time in the franchise's history.
Today I was thinking about what I could do to celebrate the coming end of football season, so I played around with a couple of knitting charts. For your viewing and knitting pleasure I submit knitting charts for a fleur de lis and a horseshoe.
These are, of course, merely reminiscent of the teams' logos; they are in no way endorsed by the NFL and should not be taken to illustrate the trademarked images used by the teams. But still, if you want to show a little knitting football spirit, these charts should get you started.
They can be worked in duplicate stitch or knit into a project as you go. I haven't knit them up myself, so I can't tell you exactly how big they'll end up, but in a medium weight yarn the fleur de lis should be about 6.75 inches wide and the horseshoe is about 10 inches wide. They could easily be altered to make the image bigger or smaller as you like. And of course they're great basic designs to add to any sort of knitting project, football related or not.

Thanks for making the charts.
Just a note – the spelling is fleur de lis (flower of the lily)
Thank you so much for your work. I am a big Colts fan and my son’s girl friend a Saints fan. I will try knitting scarfs see how it goes.
Thank you again.
“Fleur de lis” can also be spelled “fleur de lys.”
