That might not be a headline you'd expect to see on this site, or anywhere else for that matter, but a group of knitters aims to change that with their calendar called, appropriately enough Knitting IS Sexy (warning: site has music). It's the brainchild of Tammy Cunningham and Laurie Maves, who said they wanted to do their part to remove the idea that knitting is just for grannies.
"My hope through the calendar is to re-connect women with those creative parts that are inherent in themselves they have lost or have become disconnected with," said Maves. "Women who are knitters, they are connected to that creative part of themselves, and for me as an artist that's a fabulous thing."
Ten percent of sales of the calendar -- which features pictures of women wrapped in knits with dramatic makeup -- will go to the Cunningham Foundation, which teaches crafts like knitting to people in impoverished areas with the aim of helping them use craft to make a living.
You can learn more about the project and see some of the pictures in a YouTube video.
