Have You Watched Knitting DVDs?

For visual learners who don't know someone they can learn knitting from or who can't afford to take a class, knitting-related DVDs can be a big help. I've watched a lot of these in my time as your Guide to Knitting (and will be sharing my thoughts on some titles this week), and like knitting books, some are certainly better than others.

This week I'd like to know if you've watched knitting DVDs to help you learn new skills or refresh your memory if you've been away from knitting or using a particular technique for a while. Did you find them helpful? Is it an easier way to learn than reading instructions online or in a book? If you particularly enjoyed a DVD that you've seen, we'd love to hear about that, too.

I got some DVDs of Elizabeth Zimmerman’s PBS show from the library. The use of a single camera and the unscripted narrative, with her daughter calling out reminders to EZ from off-camera (”Don’t forget to show them….”) is actually quite amusing. Nevertheless, I did pick up some good tips.

I checked out some learning to knit and knitting technique DVDs from the library. They were interesting and informative. I sometimes set my DVR to Knitty Gritty or other knitting shows I can find. I find them interesting and I probably like them more than the DVDs.
