knitted socks east and westKnitted Socks East and West by Judy Sumner. Stewart, Tabori & Chang.
It's kind of amazing to me all the different angles that people keep coming up with for sock knitting books. You'd think it's a pretty narrow genre, right? Once you get past cuff down versus toe up, various needle configurations and knitting socks two at a time, there's not that much more to say, is there?

Well, of course there is, thank you for asking. Judy Sumner devised her own unique idea for a sock knitting book thanks to her interest in stitch pattern books from Japan. Learning to make the various patterns gave her the seed for her book Knitted Socks East and West.

The book uses various Japanese stitch patterns, including lace motifs, cables and interesting techniques you probably haven't seen before, in a variety of sock configurations: short socks, crew socks, knee socks, stirrups and socks without toes and heels.

This book is sure to open any knitter's eyes to the wonder of the wide world of knitting, and for intermediate to experienced sock knitters it will offer new challenges and designs that have a ring of the familiar but are also probably unlike anything you've worked before.
