It's Easy Being a Green Knitter
Saturday October 3, 2009
More and more people these days are thinking about sustainability when it comes to their crafty hobbies, and there are many different ways to support the health of the planet and other people through knitting. We can knit from our stash or reuse yarn instead of buying new, choose local products instead of those manufactured thousands of miles away, even choose yarn that promotes quality of life for the people who produce it.
If you're wondering what you can do to create great knitting projects without harming the planet, Joanne Seiff's Knit Green provides a good overview of the different options, from choosing vegan yarns to supporting yarn co-ops or making yarn out of old bed sheets.
The book also provides 20 patterns you can make with organic and sustainable yarns, yarn from your stash or fiber repurposed from thrift store sweaters.
Reading the book should help knitters who want to craft greener to decide what their priorities are when they choose yarn with an eye toward sustainability and making their own ecological footprint a little smaller while still enjoying their favorite craft.

I’m looking for help!!! Would someone have or be able to tell me where to find a knitted pattern for a ‘ladybug’ sweater? As my children were growing up I had a lot of knit-0-graphs of lots of different kinds….it seems like now it is impossible to find one. Thank you to anyone who could help me…. a desperate greatgrandmother
