If you're going to be in or around New York City next weekend, you might want to check out the first NYC Yarn Crawl, a celebration of all things fibery in the city. Running from October 9 through the 12th, 14 retailers will be taking part in the self-guided tour that includes special promotions at the shops and raffles where people get entries for each shop they visit. They'll also be a scavenger hunt that will involve locating objects at each of the participating shops. Fun!
No matter where you are in the world this weekend you can check out virtual tours of crafters' studios with the help of Studios magazine. On October 3 you can check out a variety of spaces used by different creative folk at their individual blogs (many are linked in the post highlighted above). I'd take part in this fun event, but really, you don't want to see where I work right now; it's a huge mess!
Finally, you may have heard here or elsewhere about the huge 1,000 Fabulous Knit Hats project that knitter extraordinaire Annie Modesitt has been working on. The winning designs, the patterns of which will be included in the book, have been announced, and they are gorgeous. Check them out to see some of the amazing creativity that can be involved in something as simple as a hat.
