Knitters from Hampden, Maryland, and beyond have knit a sweater for a tree to keep it warm and the sidewalk cheery for the long winter ahead. The sweater was the brainchild of Sue Caldwell, owner of local knitting shop Lovelyyarns. The flowering cherry tree stands in front of the shop and was also covered in knitting last year as well, though the panels were removed so the tree could "breathe" during the summer.
In this week's charity and art knitting news, we've got profiles of Arran knitters who've donated more than 500 items to a local hospital; Aussie knitters making blankets and dog sweaters for those in need; and NHS workers in Scotland have been working on knit squares for a project that will decorate the Skye Bridge with knitting. Also, the Big Knit annual knitting project that has knitters make tiny caps for juice bottles to raise awareness of problems among the elderly, has begun and has a goal of 50,000 caps to be knit by October 2.
